Gever Tulley

Gever Tulley and his students
I liked the short video about Gever Tulley’s tinkering school that he does with his wife where kids learn hands-on. I wished that when I was growing up there was a program or a school similar to Gever Tulley’s tinkering school. Growing up, I have learned that I am a visual learner. I learn better hands on, children need to be creative, and the school system needs improvement.
I loved art and gym class because everything was hands on. I felt free to express myself through art projects, paintings and drawings. In gym class, I was very active, very athletic and very outgoing. I felt that I could express myself with every sport I played. Sitting for an hour or more listening to the teacher lecture is not my style for learning. It’s boring and not everyone learns best that way. As a child, I always got hurt because I wanted to try new things and even when my mother told me not to, I was curious and still did it. That’s how I learned, that’s how I gained my own personal experiences.
Gever Tulley is great for giving the children the opportunity to bring out their creativeness along with their great imagination. In the video, some of the creations that were done by the kids were amazing. The roller coaster created by the seven year olds were very impressive. Creativity is key, I truly believe that everyone is beautiful and smart in their own way and when an individual has the opportunity to be free and learn the way they learn best, the sky is the limit.
The school system needs to promote more active behavior. I think that society relies on technology for everything. Kids need to experience team work, learn and discover things on their own, it opens the opportunity for trail and error, which is the best way to learn in my opinion. Gever Tulley said “success is in the doing and failures are celebrated and analyzed,” and I agree!
I know everyone learns differently, but I am I visual learner and I would love to visit his school and bring my daughter Diamond. Creativity is awesome and I believe everyone should release their creativeness from time to time, and school system should promote more independence and opportunities like Gever’s Tulleys school. Gever Tulley is great, and I truly believe in everything he said in the video. Here is the link to Gever Tulley’s video. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/gever_tulley_s_tinkering_school_in_action.html

  1. I thought visual learner was pictures. Surprisingly we have the same learning style, hands on.

  2. You put a lot of valid information in this, and as well we are both hands on learners
